Friday Favourites - The Coat Edit

This week, my Friday faves post is centred around my undying love of coats which has been resurrected in the last few cold, rainy weeks. Coats are an expensive favourite item of clothing to have that's for sure, but I just can't seem to help myself. I love a bright colour / pattern but obviously you don't get as much wear out of these ones as a good old neutral. Below you'll find a couple of new additions, some old favourites and of course some ones on the wish list!

In preparation for Winter, I've added two new coats to the family this week. I've been trying to hold off for so long because I always end up buying one then seeing others I prefer later on but I just simply could resist no longer. Here they are in all their glory:

You'll be able to see the grey one in action in my last outfit post here but since the camel one was only purchased yesterday an instagram image will have to do.  I've been looking for a camel coat for aaages. I have one from H&M a couple years ago which is nice but just doesn't quite fulfil my camel needs but the Topshop one is another story.

I've actually also become really excited to dust off some of my older coats from last year. Despite the weather here being pretty miserable most of the time it's actually been relatively mild recently so the temperature is only just beginning to approach coat level. Here are some of my faves that I'm sure you'll be seeing on the blog again in coming weeks, can you tell I like a tartan coat?
Topshop Tartan // Topshop Orange // ASOS Pink // Zara Tartan
The pink one is the one I've missed the most. Obviously because of the colour it isn't quite the most versatile one so I was kicking myself when last winter came to an end and I'd only worn it a handful of times so this year you can expect to see a lot more of it!

Last, but most certainly not least, what kind of coat lover would I be if I didn't' have my eye on some new ones?! The cape is obviously the new coat of the moment and I do adore them whenever I see a babe such as Olivia Palermo working one but I'm just not sure I'd be able to pull it off so I like how the ASOS coat kind of has that cape effect while still having the comfortable security of some sleeves.

While we're on the topic of coats, I'm in the midst of a huge clear out and am actually selling some of my old coats on Depop - download the app and search username 'jansell'!

Grey

Jumper - ASOS
Skirt - ASOS
Coat - ASOS
Shoes - ASOS
Bag - Zara

Autumn has hit Glasgow in full force and the weather has been revolting, gale force winds and torrential rain is what we've been dealing with this week! So I decided to match my outfit to the grey skies.
Anyway, I've had my eye on this ASOS coat for over a year and it finally was reduced to £66 in this season's sale but there seems to just be the odd individual one coming into stock every so often so it took a lot of patience and a quick pounce when I saw it. This is actually the petite version, so I dread to think how long the standard one would be!
I'm also generally not a huge fan of black tights but there are so many gorgeous skirts in stock just now and Glasgow doesn't permit bare legs at this stage in the year so tights are a must. I decided to add a bit of colour in the form of this Zara bag that was a birthday present. I love their handbags and this one is no exception.

Friday Favourites - ASOS Wishes

[clockwise from top left]

I've decided to try stick to more of a routine with my blog to keep my posts regular and part of this is introducing a 'Friday Favourites' feature. I've seen this kind of post on many blogs with varying content but for me I've decided to vary it week to week. So, every Friday (hopefully), from now on you'll be able to come here on a Friday and see what I'm loving this week - whether it's a wish list, haul or other favourites of mine. We'll see how it goes but I've decided to start with a good old fashioned wish list - and who better than ASOS to start off my new feature.

ASOS and Topshop are the two websites that I open every time I'm on my laptop without fail. If there's ever a specific item I'm after, for example a black jumpsuit or a blue coat, ASOS is always my first stop. They have such an extensive selection of stock you're almost always guaranteed to find what you're after and with their handy saved items feature it's very easy to keep a track of all the lovely things you can't afford!

I only just discovered the Matt & Nat range the other day on ASOS and I'm in love. The bags look such great quality and just so lovely, I really want that one in grey as well. I've spoken about these faux fur stoles before and I just can't get over the selection of ASOS - the colours are just amazing and I can't wait to get my hands on one. You can't go wrong with a chic simple jumpsuit and at £22 this one really ticks all the boxes - it would be perfect for dressing down for during the day / up for a christmas party. What would a wish list be without a couple of good coats. These ones need no explanation, let the pictures do the talking.

Jumpsuit

Top - H&M
Jumpsuit - Topshop
Boots - Zara (similar)
Coat - ASOS
Necklaces - Topshop & ASOS

This is my other outfit from my trip to Manchester. On the Saturday night we went out to eat at Australasia and oh my god it was amazing. The sushi and small plates were amazing but my personal favourite was the selection of infused waters.

Anyway, back to the outfit. I've been dying to wear this jumpsuit for ages. I just love the blush pink colour. I decided to dress it down by adding the tshirt underneath and the sleeveless trench was the perfect finishing touch - it being slightly less baltic down in Manchester than Glasgow!

Autumn Tartan

Top - H&M
Trousers - ASOS
Gilet - Topshop (similar)
Bag - Zara
Shoes - ASOS

I wore this ensemble out for a family dinner the other night and as I've said before, it's these smart casual events that I struggle to dress for! I'm so pleased with these ASOS trousers - they're slightly thicker so perfect for autumn and just brighten up an everyday look a bit. I'm also loving the return of faux fur into my routine and I'm just trying to hang on until pay day to buy one of the gorgeous ASOS coloured faux fur scarves.

The other payday must buy for me is a camel coat - I have seen that famous Missguided one and ordered it but they only had it in a size 6 when I ordered and I'd like it slightly more oversized (I'm selling it on my Depop along with LOADS of other stuff if you fancy a look - username 'jansell'). So I now have my eye on this Topshop beaut and this Mango stunner - can't decide which one!

Slouch

Top - Topshop
Jumper - ASOS
Trousers - ASOS
Coat - ASOS

Last weekend we took a little trip down to Manchester to visit my brother and went for a spot of shopping on the Saturday. I decided to go for slouchy everything. The trousers are basically PJs and the coat is super cosy. This sleeveless knit is one of my favourite AW14 purchases as of yet. It's very versatile and so simple but I just love the shape of it.
Anyway, I came home from Manchester with a stinking cold that I'm only just recovering from but apart from that it was great!

Colour Blocking

Coat - Topshop (similar)
Dress - Topshop (similar)
Bag - Zara
Boots - Pull & Bear (similar)
Earrings - Primark

This dress caught my eye as soon as it popped up on the 'New In' page of Topshop and when 20% student discount came along the deal was most certainly sealed. I decided to add some colour with the coat and bag. This coat was a sale buy towards the end of last winter and I remember swithering for ages over whether to return or keep but now that autumn is coming around I'm definitely glad I kept it.
Also loving these hoop earrings that I dug out form the bottom of a drawer last week. The pack from Primark was 5 pairs for £1 - you can't argue with that!

Tunics and Trousers

Top - Topshop (similar)
Trousers - Topshop
Shoes - ASOS
Bag - Tosphop (similar)
Coat - Topshop (similar)

A bit of a more sophisticated look today. I wore this out for dinner a while back and that is the kind of occasion that I struggle most with choosing an outfit. I can do casual and I can do very dressed up but it's the in betweens that I find difficult!
An influx of snazzy new trousers into my wardrobe has somewhat solved this problem and these wide leg trousers from Topshop are the latest catch - I think they're even on sale now! The tunic silhouette shape is also a new favourite of mine, I've got this one and a plain white now but the black is definitely next on my wish list.

Breaking the Routine

Dress - Topshop (similar, similar)
Coat - Topshop (similar)
Boots - Pull & Bear (similar)
Bag - ASOS (similar)

I think this is the first year that I'm enjoying this transitional phase into the colder months. Previously I'd have begun a boring routine by now, of wearing jeans every day with a different shirt/jumper combo but I've realised that it isn't scandalous to have bare legs in October.

I've had this dress for nearly a year but couldn't quite find the right time to wear it and suddenly, last weekend it felt the perfect choice for Sunday lunch. I've also been having a major wardrobe cleanse right now and have listed loads on my depop (username - jansell) so this has also resulted in some older pieces being resurrected from the back!

On a colder day, I quite enjoy an ankle sock peeking out from a pair of boots. It's my slightly more tame version of socks and sandals, which I have seen and loved on the likes of Fearne Cotton but can't quite bring myself to wear.

PS this is now only £15 in the sale!! HERE
